I think it’s been nearly a year since we last posted anything on this blog and a lot has
happened since then…Thane and I got married! Rather than ramble on and on, I’ll try
my best to let the pictures and video speak for us. Just a heads up, if you do take the time
to view all the videos and slideshows expect to spend the next 30 minutes here with
us. We won’t be offended if you don’t view them all in one sitting!
Last year was quite the emotional roller-coaster as we tried to plan our wedding in Tahoe.
After many long nights discussing our options, it was clear that our original plan was not
going to work because Thane’s immediate family members (who live internationally)
could not attend. So as you know, we postponed the wedding and hoped to plan
something down the road that would include all of the important people in our lives. As
the middle of summer approached and we neared August 12th, the thought of waiting
another year for our summer wedding in Lake Tahoe seemed silly. We aren’t really
the “wedding planning” type: big parties, theme parties, formal events; it’s not really
our style! Why wait another year when we really just wanted something fun and casual
outdoors in one of our favorite places? That’s when, less than 1 month until the August
12th date, we decided to pull together an event and have a wedding. Plan B was hatched
– two small weddings…one in Lake Tahoe with my family and a handful of dear friends
and one in Australia with Thane’s family. As of today, the wedding in OZ has yet to be
set but hopefully a combined wedding/grad-school graduation trip can be planned for
some time next year.
As for Tahoe, without my Mom and Dad, none of it would have happened. For any of
you who have ever planned a wedding – consider doing it in 3wks! My sister-in-law
got married last July and told me afterward that she loved it so much she considered
changing careers to wedding planning…me, on the other hand, am having nightmares
about planning an Aussie one because this is the kind of shit I was NOT born to do. But
a handful of loving individuals rearranged their schedules on such short notice in order to
help, it took a village, but a wedding we had!
The ceremony was held at Lilly Lake, just a few miles outside of South Lake Tahoe. We
had NO reservations, had NO clue if it would be crowded, if we’d have an open area to
do it, just crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. As we led our small party over the
rocks toward an open area near the shore of the lake, amazingly, we had the entire place
to ourselves. Becky, my brother Justin’s girlfriend (although ‘girlfriend’ doesn’t nearly
describe how much we adore her and how much she’s a part of this family) became an
ordained minister 36hrs prior to our wedding. With 3 days’ notice on the 2nd month of
her new job as a Licensed Nurse Practitioner, she and Justin wrote up our ceremony
and she officiated the whole thing perfectly. Words cannot describe how much we
appreciated their effort nor how we’ll never forget Reverend Becky’s contribution to that
magical day.
After the ceremony we had everyone come back to the house we rented up on Kingsbury
Grade to enjoy tacos, booze, and music. The evening was wonderful – Thane and I were
in jeans and t-shirts within the first hour of the reception! I had my whole family there
as well as Mimi, Rache, Dana, and Rane…my girls who have been with me forever but
more importantly they have been with me through my journey of meeting, loving, and
living with Thane. (Caitie, you were there in spirit!). Thane had his two closest friends
from California, Steve and Jim, both of which he has known for over 20 years. Having
them there meant so much to Thane.
The first slideshow is a quick video of our engagement photos for those of you who never
saw them and the second slideshow (

photos, and the reception. Photos in both videos were taking by Racheal Ortiz of Lady of
mention one of my closest friends.

We haven’t taken an official honeymoon but we did manage a pre-wedding trip to Arizona, a night in Calistoga, tiswo nights down in Monterey/Big Basin (with our doggie, Reno!), and a couple more
nights in Tahoe with the kids and some of my family. A select few photos are in the slideshow below (
http://vimeo.com/38337232). Hopefully we’ll manage a “real” honeymoon sometime this year and if not, well, we always have Australia! I hope you enjoy seeing the photos and thank you to all of you who attended the wedding on such short notice or who have simply supported us over the last year as we navigated this crazy journey. Much love and happiness to everyone in 2012. Maybe this year we’ll actually remember to update the blog…
